Sanzaru Games Karting Championship, Race 1 Results

The results are in. A couple months after getting his own CRG Kart, Kyle participated in his first race. What was previously known as the Red Line Oil Karting Championships, has now been renamed the Sanzaru Games Karting Championship due to a change in the title sponsor. We don’t know for sure, but I think Kyle may be the only rookie this year, racing amongst a bunch of veterans, some of whom have participated in Rotax Minimax, Rotax Junior and Rotax Senior so they have a ton more experience than he does. Despite the valuable seat time he’s had at Lemans Karting, this is a whole different level of racing.

Knowing this, we assumed he wouldn't do so well in the first race. He managed to qualify 10th out of 12, and also finish 10th. He also managed to set his best lap time on this track during the first heat race (53.391). It’s been great to seem him able to improve his time almost every time he’s on the track. He still needs to pick up about 2 seconds to run with the leaders (who are all within tenths or hundredths of a second of each other).

Kyle was beaming after his finally broke the 53 second barrier. Prior to this weekend, his best was in the 55’s.

A couple setbacks during Practice

We were hit by 2 different setbacks on Saturday practice. First, he had a mild collision during one of the sessions which ended up bending his frame. Second, his starter crapped out which left him stranded on the track where he essentially had to just hang out in the middle of the track until the session was done. At least it gave him a chance to check out what other drivers were doing from a good vantage point.

The great crew at Cameron Karting were able to fix both issues in time for him to still get most of the practices in and be ready for race day. His primary mechanic that day was Landon Yee, whose twin nephews were probably the cutest pit crew ever.
