Results from first Sunday Night Heat

Kyle should have done much better than he did, but considering this was just his first time participating in one of Lemans Karting's Sunday Night Heat races, he actually came out ok. 8th place out of 19 total drivers. I’m pretty sure he was the only teenager in the group, which meant most of the drivers had more overall driving experience than he has.

The race format was:

  1. Practice Race
  2. Qualifying - Race 1 (random order)
  3. Qualifying - Race 2 (reverse order of Q1)
  4. Semi-Finals
  5. Finals (top 10 drivers only)

Since there were so many drivers, everyone was divided into 3 groups during the first 4 races, then points and tiebreakers determined the top 10 for the finals.

Kyle placed between 1st and 4th in each of the first 3 races. His times were generally among the top drivers of the night – his best was 18.444 for the night. However, position determined points and he got stuck starting in the middle for Q1 and Q2 due to the random draws, which meant he started 4th and 3rd in the qualifying rounds since we had 7 racers in our group. It didn't help him secure as many first place finishes as he normally would have since he never started higher than 3rd, which put him starting on the grid of the final race in 8th place (due to points).

In the final race, he got spun out during the first lap so he dropped to last place, but was able to fight back up 2 positions throughout the course of the race to finish 8th overall.

Here are the results from the final race:
